Julie Batey has been a member of the Board of Education since November 2013. She is a lifelong resident of Wadsworth and a Wadsworth High School graduate. Julie and her husband, Bruce, have two young adult children, Tony and Sofie, both Wadsworth High School graduates. Tony graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2022. Sofie currently attends Kent State University.
Mrs. Batey earned an Associate Degree in Community Services and a Bachelor Degree in Mass Media Communications from the University of Akron. She was a human resource manager for eight years before starting her family.
Mrs. Batey is an active member of the District Academic Council, High School Academic Counsel, Technology Committee, Business Advisory Council, K-12 Guidance Counselor Committee, Whole Child Committee, Middle School Mentor program, and #BeKindWadsworth Committee. She is a member of the Wadsworth Lions Club. Mrs. Batey serves as Vice President of the Wadsworth Grizzly Community Foundation, Wadsworth Public Library Board, and the Medina County Metropolitan Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
Mrs. Batey said, "For the past 10 years, I have enjoyed working hand-in-hand with students, parents, principals, other school administrators, and community organizations. I have learned so much by listening to District partners while serving in the various roles I hold in the District and Wadsworth community. I want to continue strengthening these relationships during my third terms as a Board of Education member."
